We've been invaded!

I wouldn't normally share video of my bathroom with the general public (not that anyone who doesn't know me ever stops by) but I just had to share this.

Ants are just part of the life here in Hawaii, just as are cockroaches, cane spiders, centipedes, geckos, and other creepy crawlies, good and bad. Doesn't that just make you want to move here? Well, we've always been plagued by these teeny ants, they show up in the weirdest places of the house. And they are super annoying when you get one on you as they are so tiny that they are hard to find, but yet they tickle like crazy. Since we live in an apartment building that is as old as sin I don't think that there is any way to even begin to actually eliminate them, but I do my part to kill off the populations that I come across. As I did to this one shortly after I taped this. This is BY FAR the most ants I've seen in one place - who knows what they were doing?

Luckily my children are not scared off or freaked out by ants, as Isaac went to use the bathroom and found the millions of little critters. He even thought it was pretty cool. What boy wouldn't?

After a little research online I think that I've identified them as ghost ants. Here's a little more info from the Ant Institute (didn't know there was such a place) if you're so inclined.

You have those too? Nothing works on those things! Watch out for your electronics (they ate up the inside of my other laptop) and corrugated cardboard- those become their homes and they take over!

Probably fortunate I couldn't get the video today. . . . we're about 50 - 50 on that!
I will take your word for it. . . . that are zillions!
Hawaii is still a great destination!
Especially to visit you all!

lisa,
you can't BEGIN to know how much ants and other insects creep me out!!!!! we have a couple of extra geckos running around if you want to come by and see if they'll help! But you guys seems to be not so traumatized by it. Which is the best way to be if you live in TVA. Still love Isaac!!

Don't you love Hawaii? There are who knows how many different types of ants. I think we had an infestation of these. The nest was in a box of garbage bags...if they are the same they were insanely annoying to get rid of until we found the nest.

Oh my goodness, I cannot believe it! And you seem so calm about it. I would be in an absolute panic. I hope you can get rid of them!

I'm glad I don't live there-nasty! I totally freaked out when I saw a cockroach in Venezuela and had to pee in the same place he was in because he was too fast to catch!

You're more woman than me I guess!

Wow! That was an impressive amount of ants. We too have our fun with ants, black widows, and lizards, but I have to say that it has NEVER been that bad. The boys thought it was cool. I had to play the video over and over again. When we finally get done, I think we'll check out the Ant Institute. :)
